Hello, and welcome to Oldham Baptist Church ...

Welcome to our church web site.

We are currently preparing to celebrate Christmas - when we remember the birth of Jesus.
During this time we would like to share with you our 'Advent calander'

Each day, from 1st - 25th of December, a part of the Christmas story will be revealed on this page. Clicking on it will reveal a commentary based around that portion of the story. We hope you find sharing this experience with us both usefull and thought provoking.

If you would like any further information, have any questions about the church or our programme of events, or if you have comments to make about how we can do things better, please contact us and we will do all that we can to assist.

Countdown to Christmas

The Christmas Story A Picture to colour

1It all started about 2000 years ago in The Holy Land. 2 Although many people were Jewish they were governed by the Romans. 3 In the village of Nazareth lived a young woman named Mary. When Mary grew up she was promised in marriage to a carpenter named Joseph. 4 Angel Gabriel came to Mary and told her God had chosen her to be the mother of his son. 5 An Angel appeared to Joseph and told him to name the baby Jesus. 6 A law was passed that everyone had to return to the town of their birth to register for tax. 8 So Mary and Joseph had to make the long journey to Bethlehem 9 They packed the saddle bags and Mary made the journey on a donkey. 10 A star appeared in the sky, a sign that a great king was about to be born. Three wise men, Melchior, Caspar and Balthazar followed the star to Jerusalem. 11 In Jerusalem they could only find cruel King Herod. 12 King Herod sent the kings to Bethlehem to find Jesus. 13 They were bearing gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh for the new born king. 15 When Mary and Joseph arrived in Bethlehem they had to look for somewhere to stay. 16 All the inns were full but an inn keeper took pity on them and let them stay in the stable. In the stable there was an ox and an ass and a manger for a crib for the baby. 17 When the three kings arrived in Bethlehem they worshipped Jesus. 18 In a dream, an angel told the kings not to return to Jerusalem as Herod wanted to harm Jesus. 19 In the hills near by some shepherds saw the radiant light and the sky was filled with singing angels. 20 The angels sung "Unto you is born this day a Saviour who is Christ the Lord." 22 Glory to God in the Highest, peace and good will towards men." 23 The Shepherds made the journey to Bethlehem to visit the baby Jesus." 24 At Christmas people all over the world celebrate the birth of Jesus, the Son of God."
